The D8251C is an universal synchronous/asynchronous receiver/transmitter (USART). It is designed for microcomputer systems data communications. The D8251C is used as a peripheral and is porgrammed by the 8085A or other processor to communicate in commonly used serial data transmission techniques including IBM Bi-Sync.
